![]() Information is from the book World Weather Guide, page 323. Weather averages for the Camp Jacob (Guadeloupe) at an elevation of 1750 feet/533 meters are below. From about mid-December through early May is the best time to climb, but even in the driest seasons, it rains almost every day up high. June through November are wetter, although the difference from the dry season is not always dramatic. On average, February, March and April are the driest months, followed by December and January. Needless to say, this region is very wet and heavy rains are possible at any time. There are no real dry seasons in this region, but some seasons are certainly wetter still than others. Even in the dry season, it rains frequently and the trail from Mount Qua Qua to Concorde Falls is always muddy and wet. The routes from or two Concorde Falls or Annandale Falls should only be done in the dry season. When to ClimbThe trail to Mount Qua Qua itself can be done year round as long as the weather isn't extreme. ![]() CampingCamping is allowed in Grand Etang National Park. The entire route took five hours and is 10 miles/16 kilometers long.įor experienced hikers who have all day to spare, this is the recommended route. Tourist might need one, but not experienced hikers/climbers. After hearing that the trail had been destroyed, we were talked into a guide, but any experienced rain forest hiker/climber should be able to do this one without one. This route is attractive since it passes four nice waterfalls and is very scenic. It is steep and muddy, but is pretty easy to find.Īt one landslide, you must downclimb (unless the trail gets reconstructed) a nearly vertical 50 feet/15 meter section, but there is a cable in place and holds carved into the rocks, so it's not too bad, though there is some exposure. The trail from Mt Qua Qua to Concorde Falls was obliterated by Hurricane Ivan, but is now passable. This challenging route, when combined with Mount Qua Qua is probably the best hike in Grenada. ![]() Grand Etang Lake can also be seen.Įnjoying the views from the summit of Mount Qua Qua. The summit provides good views of much of Grenada and both the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea can be seen. On the summit, there is a class 3-4 boulder to climb however, if you want to stand on the very highest point. Reports of exposure and steep scrambling along the trail are greatly exaggerated, at least for experienced hikers and climbers. The trail to the summit is well marked and easy to follow, so a guide is not needed, but if he or she knows about the plant and animal life, it might be worthwhile to have one. To make a longer hike of it, you can combine it with the 2.5 mile/4.5 kilometer loop trail around Grand Etang Lake. The route is 6 miles or 10 kilometers round trip. There is usually some mud and some steep sections, but this is an easy climb in comparison with most rain forest mountains. This is the standard route on the mountain and is a great introduction to rain forest hiking in the mountains. Routes Overview Mount Qua Qua via Grand Etang Lake Most times they don't even blow their horns to alert you.Lower Concorde Falls is the trailhead at the end of the descent route from Mount Qua Qua. They drive full-throttle even cutting across to your side of the road. They don't give a s* if there is a cyclist, pedestrian or other slow road user on the road. One word on the Grenadian car drivers: they are the most aggressive drivers I have ever met. Since I forgot to bring a spare tube I had to cycle back most of the route on my rim. To add to that a spoke on my real wheel broke and the tube on the front wheel burst because of the heat. Did I hear someone say feet! This was necessary but really not advisable. I therefore had to spontaneously develop a technique to increase by brake power. This is a must when attempting to cycle in this area of Grenada since there are several steep segements on the route. Although I changed the brake lining and brake levers yesterday before my bike and hike, they just don't have enough power to allow my to stop on a steeper hill. ![]() So my mountain bike is not only missing proper uphill gears, the brakes are really really bad. A bit of gymnastics is needed if you intend to go all the way up. The steps at the bottom have rotted and collapsed as you can see in the photo. The view is spectacular but the lookout itself is in dire need of repair. From there I went on to the Beasejour Lookout.
